The Disappearing

Face335_1I've been trying, desparetely trying to design a store.  I don't know why I just can't do it - I mean it's a one page store.  Gees.  Frustrating.  So I stopped and drew something instead.  I wanted to a feeling of disappearing, of not really being there, that the wall is more important.  Sort of how I felt tonight.  Funny, even when I'm feeling down I can't draw dark colors.

Collage

Since I didn't draw last night (omg), I thought I'd post these.  They're little collage ATCs I did way back in December for trading before the drawing urge took hold.

Comments to Portrait of Lillian

I thought I'd post my response to everyone's comments about my portrait of my mom.  Here goes - do you know how many colors I can use for blush - there's flesh pink, salmon pink, tea rose, light pink, pure pink, light tea rose, light prawn, bougainvillaea and of course blush.  I know this because I just went through all of them.

I'm going to get a frame this weekend to give the drawing to my mother.  I'm not sure how I'll handle it if she gets all mushy.

And there was no drawing for today.  I've been working on my store since I got home from work.  You may have noticed I redid my entry page.  I'm going to have a 2nd blog linked to this which will be the portal to the store and the entry page is the first step.  I hope to work on it all this weekend.

Portrait of Lillian

This is my first portrait of a real person drawn from a picture of my mother - recently married, her husband in the army.  The inscription says " And then we were married".  My mom is 82 so I have all the family albums for safekeeping.  Actually, I have them so my brother can't which is a rather long tedious story.  There's nothing in them for me to reminence about.  But this picture caught my eye.  It's so full of hope and youth and I wonder where that woman went.

So, this is 5x7 using art markers of course.  I wanted an old look so I used lots of ink and lots of blender.  It doesn't really look that much like her but I'm starting to think that portraits don't really have to look like the people your drawing.  I wanted the feel of the time, sort of Betti Davis 1940 look.

Sweet Indigo

I just like the name.

Sweet_indigo_1

design indigo

Look at this (design indigo) - one of my cards made it all the way to Singapore.  And that's why I do them so they will go to places I'll never see and meet people I never will (except on the internet of course).  Singapore - neat! And it's a well written blog so go over and take a look around.  Design Indigo - isn't that a pretty name.

Top of the World Ma

Face_335_5 I did it, yes I did.  This is 8x10 finally.  I feel like I broke the sound barrier.

Postcard Slowdown

I've got a batch of postcards waiting to be mailed.  But I ordered some postcard sleeves on ebay and it will be about a week before  I get them.  They're those thin poly resealable ones that greeting cards come in.  The paper I use is perfect for pictures but not so good as a postcard - too thin.  And I don't want to back them on cardstock - it's messy and takes too much time.  So,  there'll be a little delay in all those promised postcards.  Sorry guys.

The Muse Stayed Home Today

I went to the library and returned with several books on Modigliani and these are the results.  They're all 5x7 on cardstock.

This one and the guy on the bottom have swirly lines - that idea came from laureanne after seeing it in her photo albums which you should really look at because she's very good you know.

Ok so this says Black Dispair but I just haven't got it in me to do dark colors.  So just assume he's despairing. And it's a drawing of a statue by Wilhelm Lehmbuck - "Fallen Youth" 1915.  It was in my book on Modigliani.

I loaded these via Typepads software.  Please let me know if you can't see the image when you click it  or it takes a long time to load.

Website Update, Again

Ok, I'm rewriting this post because someone you know who scratched their head.  - It's a living thing my website, it's never finished.  Yesterday I redid the site and changed my mind and now am moving the galleries to Typepad albums instead.  It's much easier to maintain.  Portraits and Twig 'n Berries are in Typepad the others will follow soon.  Is that clear?  So please stop scratching your head in public - it's not ladylike :>
