and again Egon

Egon1_1 Whenever I feel like I just can't do anything - you know the feeling, all those crumbled drawings on the floor.  Whenever I feel like that, I go back to Egon.  I love Egon, that's it, flat out love that man's absolute talent.  It also helps that I got a new Egon book - Eros and Passion.  It's not just his drawings because I have most of the those in my other Egon book but an analysis of his work in the context of his time, Vienna. other artists, his influences and expressionism.  It's a really interesting book and only $9.95.

And this is in my sketchbook and I say that with such pride - I have a sketchbook (one that I actually draw in) and it's 9x12.

I've been Remiss

How neglectful of me - I meant but never did add kisane at design indigo to my favorite links.  She's so nice and I'm going to pester her until she posts all her drawings on her blog.  You go pester her too.

Flickr Artists

If you don't use Flickr you really should.  It has the most amazing artists of every type you can imagine.  I've added 2 of them to my favorite links.  You should go and visit and leave a comment.  You can get a free account with Flickr so you can leave comments.

midorionna  at 23yrs old is a seriously talented young lady.  And the ultimate example of moleskine obsession is Patrick Ng also a most excellent artist.  He has his pix on Flickr as well as a site dedicated to moleskine art here.

2nd Qtr

Angelus3_1 2nd quarter.  Tara  said she liked it as is - 1/4 colored and the rest left not.  I liked that idea so maybe next one.  And you should take a look at Tara's work - it's very good, she's on Flickr.  Now I'm going to glue something.

Want to see what I'm doing?

Angelus2_1  Know what I discovered?  Well, not really discovered because most people know it but colored pencils work well with markers.  After looking at Sheila Hudson's work (intently staring actually) for awhile I started working on this.  I'm coloring it with markers and colored pencils.  I taped it in 4 sections because I want to color them differently.  It's taking awhile because it's 8 1/2 x 11. Then this is  start of the 1st quarter.

Rose

File0673_5 This one was hard to scan.   It's 1 1/2" x 11" - left over scrap cardstock.

Sketch Practice

Sketch1 I don't really practice.  All my drawings are start to finished colored drawings.  I say I practice but that's not practice.  I tend to think that everything has to be perfect, complete.  I'm in a hurry to get to the finish line.  I keep on telling myself I've only been doing this since Feb, I've got plenty of time.  In the back of my mind is all that time lost when I wasn't drawing. Which is probably why I can't easily draw in the moleskine.  I want it to be perfect, don't want to waste a page or time.   But I'm going to try so here's another baby step.  I bought a sketchpad 9x11.  Yep, 9x11.  I'll never draw bigger unless I practice bigger.  Here are my practice pages.  The pad is too big for the scanner and they don't really show up well as photos but it gives you an idea.

I made a book

Non_journal_cover Well, not a book really, a non jounal.  My moleskine is still a little bit on the intimidating side.  So, I have this daily planner from 2003 which of course I only used once or twice.  The pages are nice and thick and it has a hard cover front and back.   I redid the cover, glued in the pages from the weekend and did 2 more. I thought if I don't call it a journal it just might turn out to be one.   I even added an artist statement, isn't that special ;D

journaling

I wasn't sure if I should post the new journal pictures.  I actually wrote it, loaded the pictures and then deleted it.  Then I thought that well if I'm going to do this journal thing then I should try to be honest about it, about what happens, about how I feel.  I mean should a journal be about the good days only?

katrina, me and journals

File0670 I just returned from the Gulf coast after visiting my aunt who is very sick.  We just missed the hurricane on this coast and coming back today we missed it again on the other coast.  No complaints there after 6 hurricanes in 2 years.  I took my moleskine but just couldn't draw in it.  Couldn't draw much really, just not in the mood.  But I did so some journal pages on cardstock.  Here are three.  It's a start.  Baby steps in the world of journal making.  I also started a gallery for my journal pages - it's on the left.
