See this is what I want

Bright colors against the green so it's not a green kitchen.  I want to get a toaster and teapot and nice bright colors.  I don't know what what with the blinds yet.  That's a cutting board made from the left over corian from the sink cutout.

But this made my day

The contractor painted.  California Parakeet which translates to lime.  Bright isn't it?  But there really is only one wall that has alot of it that's the wall.  There'll be tile on the bottom of that green wall.  The tile is the same level all under the cabinet across the wall.  The area under the glass cabinet will also be green but above the sink will be tile.

It's bright isn't it?

A very difficult 24 hrs ...

Which started with the reordering of the appliances.  So that's settled.  I was exhausted, went to sleep, 2am, thump went something on my bed, bang went something on the floor.  2am I jump up, grap my glasses and stare at the blades on the floor.  The metal that is attached to the blade and then to the motor on the ceiling fan broke off.  The metal just broke.  The fan is 17 yrs old and the metal just broke.  Fortunately, the fan wasn't on.  If it was the blades might have gone out the patio door, into a mirror, or me.  That last thought prompted me to sleep on the sofa.

Ok, go work, can't keep my eyes open so I decide to take a 1/2 day and go for a new fan.  I wanted it in as soon as possible because I'm not sleeping under that thing.  Go out to the parking lot and there is my car with my new tires and there is a nice rusty nail in my rear new tire.  Off to the dealer.  It's going to be over soon, I just know it is.  There's not much else that can break.

My Beautiful Countertop

Really, it's the most beautiful countertop in the world, more then any countertop that's ever been installed.  And it sure better last for the 50 yrs or more for all I paid.  Now, would you like to hear the story about my kitchen appliances?

I ordered them over 2 months ago from Home Depot.  But they couldn't be delivered until the contractor was ready.  Well he was ready so I called them today when I got home from work.  Oh that order was canceled.  What?  I'm paying for it, it can't be canceled.  We only hold orders for 60 days.  But I'm paying for it.  No problemo - just go back to Home Depot and reorder.  Ok, so 5pm off I go to HD.  No problemo - we'll just refund and order all over again.  Ok, so do all the paper work, get all the envelops - I have a collection of Home Depot envelopes and invoices.  The guy calls the GE factory to set deliver for next Friday.  Oh we're out of stock on the oven.  Huh?  We're behind in manufacturing them so we don't know when the oven will be available.  Does she what the other appliances?  NO SHE DOESN'T, IT'S A SET YOU OVERPAID PERSON!  So, the Home Depot guy had to cancel and refund everything all over again.

I had to choose a totally different set of appliances.  And I actually picked the first one I liked before I ordered the ones I did.  The ones canceled were graphite color - dark dark gray but not black.  This time around I got clean steel.  It looks like stainless steel but isn't and it's magnetic and let me tell you no one magnet will be on that thing.  They all scratch.  Bonus is that it costs a few hundred less and that savings went toward buying the extended warranty on the washer/dryer.  So 2 hours later here I am feeding the cats, typing this, filing the Home Depot envelopes, figuring out which papers to send n for the rebates and going to sleep.

Renovation is just the nicest experience isn't it?

Here's a pix of the kitchen so far.  The sink is in and so are all the cabinets.  I think he might paint tomorrow.  Color?  It's California Parakeet, I guess they run out of names too.  It's sort of a light lime.  You can't tell it's the most beautiful countertop in the world from this pix can you?  But it is.  And it's not solid white.  It's off white with colored specs.

There's going to be a glass shelf under that 1/2 cabinet and a little light above.  The sink is extra deep and the 3 center holes are the faucet in the center, the hot/cold in one handle on the left and the right of the faucet is the spray.  The extra hole on the far right?  That's a faucet for the filtered water.  I forgot to tell the contractor that I'm a lefty.  I'll live with it.  And those are my test tiles.  There'll be about 10 of them randomly placed on the wall but not above the sink or oven.

That's it for tonight.  I'll post another pix if he paints.

Walk About...

Walkabout_3 On a Sunday morning.  Only it's Monday isn't it?  These guys have taken up residence around our canals.  We don't see white ducks often, mostly Ibis and Egrets and Cranes and our family of Egyptian Geese that somehow ended up here.  Everyone but white ducks.  Can't say that now that these guys are walking about.

That Tickles Ma

Fluffy

Haven't been to many other blogs lately, neglecting all my favorites.  But between cleaning the floors everynight and bringing work home and trying to figure out which credit card to put all these extras on there's not much time.   I was going to paint some of the kitchen tiles today but I decided to not think about the kitchen for a few days.  I decided I need puppy practice instead.
